Everyday life is the prayer.
How we conduct it, cherish it,
celebrate it, consecrate it.
~Sarah Ban Breathnach
I thought it might be helpful to post a new entry explaining Sacred Life Sunday. Since there is an ever-growing list of us doing this weekly sharing (YAY!) and linking to my blog, this is now the best post to link to. If you're doing the 30-day My Sacred Life project, you can link here or there, whichever you wish. No hard rules. It's all good. :)
So, without further ado...
Welcome to Sacred Life SundayIn August 2007 I began a 30-day personal journey I called My Sacred Life, where every day I posted a photo from my daily life capturing something that connects me to Spirit, like my prayer beads from Deb at Story-Beads. Others joined the project and for many of us it became such a deliberate and important part of our spiritual practice that we wanted to continue to share with each other on a weekly basis, and that is what Sacred Life Sunday is all about.
Sacred Life Sunday isn't really a challenge -- that sounds too strenuous -- it's really more of a softening ... into a moment, a treasured possession, a companion -- people, parts and places of your everyday life that you cherish. Whatever is sacred to you.
For me, it might be my altar, a candle I'm burning, my dogs, the garden, a friend, a book I'm reading, nature, something I did, someplace I went, something important to me, or, who knows, maybe just my morning bowl of Cheerios! The idea is to creatively connect with the holiness of my everyday life, plus I also need gentle kicks in the butt to turn OFF the game of Hearts and away from shadow comforts and turn towards God, life and others.
Once again Karen created a gorgeous little button to use on our blogs! You can either save it to your own computer and link it to this post or you can copy and paste this code:
<a href="http://zenamoon.typepad.com/weblog/2007/10/welcome-to-sacr.html"><img src="https://zenamoon.typepad.com/sacredlifesunday.gif"/></a>
Anyone is welcome to join at any time, with any frequency and for however long you'd like to play! Just leave a comment and I'll add you to the list below. If you decide to end your participation, as a courtesy would you please let me know? I'd love for our list to remain as fresh and accurate as possible. Thank you!
