Elliott, Age 16 - June 10, 2006
Because of this cute fuzzy head I was late sending out this weekend's Full Moon newsletter . . . as if it matters to anyone but my Inner Taskmistress. Love trumps timeliness.
Saturday we celebrated Elliott's 16th birthday with a BBQ and a dozen guests, party hats, presents and pumpkin muffins. Even my parents came over from Spokane!
I can't believe my boy is 16 years old. I've had him since he was 6 weeks old. The photo at right is our first day together. He wouldn't stand up! He just scooted on his belly in the grass. Together we've lived in four cities -- Redmond, Amsterdam, Prague, Snohomish -- assorted sexual orientations, countless relationships, one marriage, two jobs and one giant leap of faith, illnesses, travel, deaths, dramas, myriad adventures, alcoholism and tons upon tons of fun. From Elliott I've learned almost everything I know about unconditional love, acceptance, expressing joy, the futility of fretting, living in the moment, graceful aging, independence, healing, friendship, enthusiasm, spontaneity, patience, defiance, trust and not-giving-one-single-hoot-what-others-think. He is my heart and my love.
Dogs are the most amazing creatures.
To me they are the role model for being alive.

Oh my goddess...I opened this and dread dashed my heart - thought it was an obit, only to find a Happy Birthday message. Amen, Hallelujah and Praise the Angel of Elliot. Had enough animal scares lately and it was a treat to see his baby face, along with his wise birthday photo. Glad you had a good anniversary and celebration of his love. We love our four-legged babies! Cousin C.

My little dog Mikki was 19 years and 10 months old when he passed away, may you have Elliott for a long time yet.
