Minding My Own Business

When I choose to...

  • Avoid entanglement in other people's drama
  • Not participate in gossip or entertain talk about anyone other than those physically present in a conversation
  • Feel inspired by instead of threatened by someone else doing something cool
  • Only think about what I'm doing right now (typing, thinking, drinking sparkling water on a Monday afternoon
  • Pause when agitated and take three deep breaths

. . . I am far less frazzled, more peaceful and more present. And it's been a wonderful day!

Women at Rest is Back

Dear Women at Rest,

It has been so long since I posted, I am flooded with embarassment, bewilderment and shame. Forgive me. I can offer no reasons or excuses, other than the unwavering truth that in writing and in life, the longer I remain quiet, the harder it is to turn unquiet.

So, I'm back. Women at Rest is indeed alive, after a long winter of deep hibernation.

Springtime blessings to us all!

Ideas

  • Light candles. Unplug the phone after 6pm. Practice saying no. Take a walk alone. Limit your news intake. Pray. Swing on a swingset! Listen to mellow music. Meditate. Take a mini-retreat. Watch PBS. Color in a coloring book. Mimic your cat. Read brainfluff novels. Read Rumi. Read in a library. Read in a cafĂ©. Read in bed. Ask for help. Nap in a sunbeam. Snuggle. Soak your feet. Doodle. Indulge in guilty pleasure TV. Get a massage. Stroll through a garden you don't have to weed. Make love. Burn your shoulds. Lower your standards. Accept help. Write a gratitude list. Breathe.
