Saint Anthony Saves $$$
My Sacred Life
Day 7
In March I bought a new Canon Digital Rebel XT camera, days after Elliott passed. After it arrived I discovered I couldn't face another challenge so I put it away until today. This morning I opened the package, pulled out the manual and, hey, where's the battery and charger?
I vaguely remember seeing the battery and charger, but I've moved and can't remember, did I see it here or in Snohomish? I rack my brain. I call Canon. I'm told a replacement costs $100. Egads. I decline ordering a replacement and decide to pray to Saint Anthony, Patron Saint of Lost Things, instead. I'm not Catholic or even Christian but what the heck!
An hour or so later, I haul out the Magic Box. This box contains cables, manuals, installation CDs and unused little bits and pieces of hardware. Years ago my brother and I named it the Magic Box because every time he/we needed something techie, 9 times out of 10 we'd find it in this box. Maybe, just maybe ... so I open the lid and voilĂ ! Right on top sits the battery and charger.
Once again prayer works and so does the Magic Box. :)
I am LOVING this project, not only for my own experience but getting to share these women's sacred days too:

I just wanted to say how absolutely wonderful this blog and your other one are! I've spent a little time browsing, and bookmarked both so I can come back and read further! A little peace of calm and tranquilty in the hectic world of family, work, and life in general! I'm not quite sure how I got here tho, I was just blog surfing and "click" here I am! I love the idea of this project and just might have to join in!

I am in awe of your writing. I lost my 17 year old cat right around the same time you lost Elliott, and your words about him helped me more than you'll ever know.

Carla--
I have Lisa to thank for pointing out your Sacred Life project. If you are amenable to a bit of gentle male energy entered into the mix, I'd love to be listed as a participant. In fact, I have created a new Blogger-based blog specifically devoted to my posts related to this project.
Love the idea of the sacred spotted within what most view as mundane, and I'm looking forward to finding that moment in my own life each day.
I made a long-ago-neglected blog attempt named "Hanguin's Hideout". This time, I'm trying, "Hanguin's Hide-not."
Thanks, Carla!

I love this. Prayer does work! And I had to chuckle to myself when I read about praying to Saint Anthony even though you aren't catholic or christian. I'm not either of those and 3 months ago when a box I shipped to myself from India got lost by UPS, my mother told me about Saint Anthony, only with a bit of a Afro-Cuban twist: While praying to him you tie a read cord around the leg of a chair telling him that you will release his... ahem... balls (can I say that here??) when he brings back your lost item! Sadly, the box hasn't found its way back to me. But I didn't feel comfortable holding Saint Anthony's body parts hostage either, so who knows? :)
In any case, I have officially started My Sacred Life project! Thank you so much for the inspiration!
Blessings,

Ha! I've been a great friend of St. Anthony many times. Often times just saying:" St. Anthony, St. Anthony you good 'ole man, please find my (fill in the missing object) as fast as you can." is the best way to go. Of course, as a show of gratitude, when he finds it you have to say 12 Glorias ( a Catholic prayer of praise to the Trinity) If you're not Catholic,or Christian, you can always chant for 12 min. To keep him connected to future requests it helps to do some sort of a praise type ritual.I'll bet, Carla, you could praise one or both of your dogs 12 times, since dog is God spelled back words, it might just suffice. Well, and as far as keeping that part of him hostage,..other nun friends of mine who are on really good terms with him say it's best not to get too demanding or to lay "trips" on him. He is a busy guy, I guess. They are not above turning St. Joseph's image to the wall until he provides a request for them, though, I've never heard of anyone getting heavy handed with Anthony.I just wouldn't want to cross him myself...Blessings, Sr. K

Carla, I've been out of town and away from blog land. I wish I had known about your wonderful sacred life project sooner. Is it too late to climb aboard? With love, admirationa and appreciation, Beverly
