They say by the time we're 5 years old, our lifelong passion -- our calling -- has already revealed itself through what we love doing. Whether this is true or not for everyone, it's true for me.
While sorting through old treasures, my Mom found a whole bunch of books I wrote as a little girl. As soon as I learned to write, I wrote (and illustrated) books.
I didn't care about praise, outcome, perfection or even completion. I wrote and drew for the sheer joy of writing and drawing!
From age 5 into high school, I wrote and illustrated stories. In the 3rd or 4th grade I taught myself to type on my parents' old Smith Corona -- with a red and black ribbon! -- giving some of my books a more professional look.
I want that type of relationship with paper again.
Open. Excited. Curious. Dedicated. Fearless.
Tomorrow I'm spending an hour with paper, crayons and writing pens.
