Today's Drama That Wasn't
I woke up to a missing husband. His truck, keys and Elliott were still here, as were his running clothes, so where was he? I searched everywhere. House, shop, yard. The dogs were uncooperative witnesses. Half an hour later I was sure he'd been kidnapped, although I couldn't work out how anyone could overpower a 6'3 former Army Ranger in excellent condition without alerting two Dobermans and a visiting terrier mix.
No matter. These were logical matters I had no time for. Instead, I wondered when to file a missing person report. Would I be a suspect? Would I spend the last day of my sabbatical with police? Would they be cute?
Finally it dawned on me to try Bryon's cell. He answered. He's alive! Were his captives generous enough to allow him one final conversation with his wife?
I quickly learned no kidnapping had occurred. Bryon's electrician had simply picked him up early to bid a new job, which I had allegedly been told about the night before. End of pre-breakfast imaginary crime and my 45-minute widowhood.
Wishing you a day rooted in reality -- which always surpasses what we perceive -- wherever it may take you.
